We build the day around your group
We meet you at a pier you choose, and then set course out onto the fjord. We let the wind carry us through the archipelago while you are taught to take the helm, pull the lines and find out what sailing actually is.
Most of what we do is for companies wanting team building, a kick-off, or something to break up a conference, a summer party or a season. Often with an element of competition in it. But groups of friends and anyone else after a day worth remembering are just as welcome.
It ends up being a day of achievement, good food, easy conversation and something to tell people about afterwards.
Why a sailboat
A boat is a small place where a group has to actually work together. That is the whole mechanism.
Mastery
Nobody arrives knowing how. Everybody leaves having steered. That gap, crossed in an afternoon, is what people remember about the day.
Team building
A boat only moves if people talk to each other. The lesson is not explained on a slide, it is discovered somewhere off Bolærne.
Racing
Racing boat against boat is the fastest way to make a team play each other into form. High focus, real stakes, and a result at the end of it.
Organisational dynamics
Rank comes off at the pier. People who never normally work side by side spend four hours doing exactly that, and notice.
Informal meetings
Some conversations only happen away from a meeting room. A cockpit is a good place for the ones that have been waiting.

A greener day out
Sailing puts very little load on the surroundings and produces very little in the way of emissions, so choosing a day under sail is choosing the greener version of it. Sail On has been Miljøfyrtårn certified since 2022.

What companies ask before booking a day on the water.
Who are you?
We are specialists in sailing events, kick-offs and team building on the water. We are based in Vestfold, but we deliver from Oslo in the north, along the whole Oslofjord including Østfold and Strömstad in the east, and as far west as Larvik and Stavern.
How long is a day, and how many can come?
Our sailing events usually run four to eight hours, and a longer trip with an overnight is entirely possible.
We sail First 40.7 boats with qualified skippers, and the HSE and quality management systems the Norwegian Maritime Authority requires. Ten people per boat.
We can run this for a handful of participants or for over 200, so the size of the group is rarely the problem.
Why a sailboat rather than something else?
A sailboat is an unusually good arena for mastery, team building, racing, better organisational dynamics and the sort of meeting that never happens indoors.
It also works as a break from long seminars, summer parties, company events and kick-offs, which is a large part of why we get booked.
Do we need to know how to sail?
No. Nobody is expected to arrive knowing anything. A qualified skipper runs the boat, and you are taught what you need as the day goes on.
That is rather the point: the day works because people go from not knowing to steering the boat, and they do it together.
What if the weather turns?
The skipper decides what the day looks like on the day, and will change the plan rather than push into conditions that stop it being enjoyable.
Everybody gets a sailing jacket and trousers, so a grey morning is not the end of the day.
